PURE ENTERTAINMENT.

Popular Music from the 1900's to the 1940's inclusive.

Singers such as Harry Connick Jr, Grace Knight, Vince Jones and Natalie Cole have reintroduced the great music of this era with as much energy as performers of popular music.
Now;

KAYE PAYNE, the most talked about Jazz/Blues singer in Tasmania today, is no overnight wonder.
It all started with singalongs at home and a television show at the age of nine. From there Kaye dabbled in just about all the popular music styles, appearing in Brisbane and Sydney floorshows and with various rock and country bands then eventually following her passion, Jazz.
While on the cabaret scene Kaye toured with people like Chubby Checker, Des O'Conner, The Ink Spots and the Shadows.

Kaye's influences are great’s like Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland and Bette Midler. Kaye features the music from before the 1950's. She excels at ballads and has been classed as a "torch singer" by the Tasmanian media.

She has dabbled in composition for 20 years now but only recently released her first original Jazz CD “It’s Jazz”.

"She has been blessed with a strong clear voice, a gift for staying in tune and a wonderfully seductive stage presence that commands the attention of otherwise noisy and indifferent audiences", says the Tasmanian Jazz Coordinator.

"Kaye is a first class performer who understands all about stage craft and how to win over any audience. With her strong and extrovert personality she knows how to 'sell a song' in the same way that the inimitable Ella Fitzgerald did".
says Jazz Action Society Hobart.

"I rate her performance as one of the most enjoyable ever witnessed. Kaye used an excellent true voice to present a program which swung from the opening number". Launceston Jazz Club.

“It’s no easy task being sassy, sexy and soulful in the space of a single evening’s performance, but Hobart’s Kaye Payne managed to combine all three in a generally delightful evening of song and swing. Kaye interprets melodies with the richness and emotional depth they deserve.” Steve Robertson Vic Jazz Club. (writer and radio presenter)

Kaye Payne’s   “eKlectiKa”

New CD “It’s Jazz” is now available.

“eKlectiKa”  are a young fresh approach to Australian Jazz and Blues.
Their music is original, melodic and appeals to not only the highbrow, but also the commercial aspects of the music industry.
While trying to bring original ideas to new music they have kept the
classic feel of the older style and mixed it with the new exciting
sounds of today’s groove.

It’s the adventurous side of mainstream.
Their music includes Jazz, Swing, Latin and Blues. It’s eclectic jazz.

While some of the repertoire is original Australian compositions, they have a few of the classics to which they have given their own arrangement and style.
The result is a modern Jazz group that is pleasing to all ages and ears.

eKlectiKa”  is made up of four Tasmanians.

Piano- Kelly Ottaway; Tassie born Kelly has been playing piano with local jazz musicians since the age of 16. Kelly is our youngest member and has just finished at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music. Kelly is also an excellent vibes player. He currently does occasional gigs with young Jazz ensembles in Hobart and Launceston and plays with “eKlectiKa”.

Bass- Nigel Hope: Tassie born Nigel is the next in age and has studied music at the Tasmanian Conservatorium, and studied Jazz and Improvisation at the Victorian College for the Arts. He currently plays “eKlectiKa”, Billy and the Hep Cats and The Swing 4. Nigel is the bass player on the eKlectiKa CD.

Drums – Stephen Marskell: Steve has playing for more years than he cares to remember. He is in demand with larger ensembles because of his ability to read and interpret with taste, and with smaller groups were a more discerning feel is required. He is also a part time percussion player with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Steve currently plays with many Jazz ensembles around Hobart and teachers percussion. Steve is the drummer on the eKlectiKa CD.
